The Real Talk

Your Kid Doesn't Need Another Screen

They need a place to move, to be challenged, to belong.

Kids today spend hours scrolling, gaming, and watching. The numbers keep climbing and the costs are real: shorter attention spans, more anxiety, less physical confidence, fewer real friendships. Most after school activities are passive. Watch a screen, sit in a chair, look at a tablet.

Jiu Jitsu is the opposite of all of that. It's full-body movement. Live problem solving. Eye contact. Discipline. Real human connection on the mat with real friends. It's the cure for what screens take away.

What Your Kid Gets

Six Things Screens Can't Give Them

Every parent who walks in tells us the same thing after a few weeks: their kid changed. Here's what to expect.

01

Real Confidence

Not the kind that comes from likes. The kind that comes from earning it. Your kid will solve real problems on the mat and walk out standing taller.

02

Focus & Discipline

Jiu Jitsu rewards patience and presence. Two things screens are designed to destroy. Parents notice the difference at home and at school.

03

Physical Strength

Full body movement, balance, coordination, and cardio. Kids leave class tired in the best way and sleep better that night.

04

Real Friendships

Training partners become friends. Real ones. Kids who challenge each other, look out for each other, and actually talk face to face.

05

Self Defense

The non-violent kind. Jiu Jitsu teaches control without striking. Your kid learns to handle themselves and stay calm under pressure.

06

Something They Love

The biggest difference. Most parents say their kid asks to come, never wants to miss class, and counts down to the next session.

Meet Coach Ric

The Coach Kids Run To

Ric Centron · Founder & Head Coach

Coach Ric built this academy to be the kind of place every parent hopes for. A place where kids are challenged but safe. Pushed but supported. Held to high standards but met with patience.

Parents tell us the same thing over and over: their kids ask to come to class, look up to Ric, and grow more confident every month. The reviews from moms and dads in Chandler back it up.

Ric is an amazing instructor and is good with children and adults. He is patient and takes the time to answer questions. The gym is inviting and very family friendly.

Their First Class

What To Expect

Bringing your kid to a martial arts class for the first time can feel like a lot. Here's exactly how it goes.

01

You Walk In

We'll greet you, get your kid signed in, and show you where to sit. You're welcome to watch the whole class.

02

They Warm Up

Movement-based warm ups built like games. Kids get moving and get to know each other right away.

03

They Learn

Coach Ric breaks down a technique. Kids drill it with partners under his eye. He coaches every kid individually.

04

They Leave Hooked

Most parents tell us their kid asks when they can come back before they're even out of the parking lot.

What Moms Are Saying

Such a great experience for all 3 of my kids. Ric makes the classes fun but also has the kids working hard. He is a great person and coach for my daughters and son to look up to. Highly recommend giving his classes a try.
Lauren B. · Mom of 3
Great place for adults and kids. My sons saw how much I was enjoying it and asked to join in June. The coach is an excellent teacher and my sons really love going to class and try to never miss a day. They especially like Friday kid classes where they play games.

Mom Questions

What Parents Want To Know

This is the most common question we get and the one we love answering. Coach Ric is patient and meets every kid where they are. Quiet kids find their voice. Sensitive kids find their courage. Many of our most confident students started off shy. The mat is one of the safest places for a kid to grow into themselves.

Jiu Jitsu is one of the safest martial arts because it's grappling, not striking. Kids aren't punching or kicking each other. They're learning leverage, control, and how to move their bodies. Injuries are rare and minor when they happen. Coach Ric is hands on with safety from day one.

Two classes a week is the sweet spot for most kids. It's enough to build skill and consistency without burning them out. We have classes Monday through Friday so finding two days that work is easy. Some kids choose to come more often once they fall in love with it.

For their first class, just athletic clothes (no zippers or buttons), a water bottle, and bare feet. We'll provide everything else. If they decide to keep training, we'll help you get a proper Jiu Jitsu gi when the time is right.

Always. We have parent seating along the mat. Most parents stay for the whole class, especially in the beginning. Some get inspired and end up training themselves.

Our Mini Jiujiteiros class is for ages 3 to 7 and our Junior Jiujiteiros class is for ages 8 and up. We can make accommodations for younger or smaller students. If you're not sure where your kid fits, come in for the free class and we'll figure it out together.
